A SKY OF LIES
What is really happening beyond the view of our eyes, and the touch of our minds?
Excerpts from a much longer work by Elisa S., 12 years old.
When you look up at the sky, what do you see?
The birds, the clouds, or the tops of trees?
An endless blue sea, or the sun shining brightly?
The sky is so much more than many seem to believe.
It holds the air we breathe,
The horizon past the ocean that’s more deadly than it seems.
And do you ever wonder why
Taking care of the world is a dutiful task?
Especially in a world so vast?
One thing I do know is that our sky is affected.
The lights we turn on, sadly, should not be resurrected,
For pollution of all types is coating our skies with lies.
We can no longer look up and see the stars,
An aurora of imagination has drifted too far,
The planes, they trick us, with their flickering lights,
Up and away they soar into the night.
Now I’m not saying we should sit in a cave or rot our sorrows away,
Simply that we are burying our dreams,
And forgetting how to live.
People we may or may not love,
and the infinite sky up above,
They simply aren’t in our control.
If you were to ask me,
You really can do whatever you put your mind to,
Because the problems of the world are a weight to share upon everyone's shoulders.
The galaxy around us is too much to comprehend,
But your heart, no matter how big,
you can.
So walk out of this fog full of lies,
And look up at the clouds, the sun,
And hopefully some day, a clear, beautiful starry night sky.
Save the world, before the world is no more...
